ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Climate Assembly

In March 2021 44 residents of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ got together online to discuss the question 'how can we tackle climate change in ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ in a way that is fair and improves living standards for everyone?'Ìý These 44 Assembly Members were chosen at random to be representative of people in ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ (in terms of age, gender, where they live, type of housing etc.)Ìý The met for a total of 23 hours online, hearing evidence from over 20 experts (from academics to local residents), and voted on recommendations they created themselves, five of which received the 80% support needed to become official recommendations.

The ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Climate Assembly was commissioned by a consortium of civil society organisations and housing associations: Cynnal Cymru - Sustain Wales, Electoral Reform Society Cymru, Linc Housing Cymru, Melin ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½s, Tai Calon Community Housing Association and United Welsh Housing Association.Ìý Working closely with ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ County Borough Council (BGCBC) and ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Public Service Board (PSB).Ìý It was funded through Welsh Government’s Innovative Housing Programme – Optimised Retrofit Programme.

July 2021 Proposed Partner Actions

This response does not attempt to list all the actions that we and partners are taking on climate change, it focuses on those related to aspects of the Climate Assembly recommendations that can be delivered at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ level.ÌýÌýÌý (Some elements of the recommendations such as a single ticket system for public transport will need action at a larger scale, we are advocating for these changes, but the response focuses on what can be done locally.)
